We were delighted to interview Rebecca Hughes, the interior designer behind the refurbishment of our Elizabeth Street store, Belgravia. We talk to her about the inspiration behind the store, how she juggles work and family life, as well as some of her favourite pieces from our current collection…

Rebecca lives in Islington, London, with her husband and three young boys. She established her studio in 2014 and has a gorgeous team of 8. Since opening the studio Rebecca and the team have designed and completed projects throughout the UK, Central Europe, India, Malaysia and across other parts of Asia.

1. How would you describe your interior design style?

For us, our style evolves around curating our client's desires and bringing them to life. Our projects are incredibly varied and it constantly pushes me creatively. For me personally, I love mixing luxurious fabrics and finishes in calm neutral palettes and always have a penchant for printed wallpaper.

2. What were you inspired by when re-designing the store?

It is always important to understand the story and journey of a client. Beulah's brand is so connected to their story. I deeply admire their contribution to fight slavery and the way in which they see people as individuals and wanted this to be reflected throughout the interiors. I wanted the store to feel like a luxurious, calming home.

3. What is your favourite design feature in the store?

I adore Beulah and the feminine timeless designs that emerge season after season. In order to create a more intimate homelike space, I wanted to soften the walls and to be as inviting as possible. I had seen that Salvesen Graham had developed a collection of wallpapers and fell in love with the Floral Trail, it's colourful and fun and provides the perfect focal point.

4. How did you channel the brands' aesthetic into the interiors?

My favourite design feature is the beautiful stool upholstered in this season's iconic strawberry fabric. We had so much fun looking at Beulah's prints and dreaming them onto various homeware items. I love how Beulah x Louise Roe homeware collaboration now sits perfectly in store. I think that there is often a blurred line between interiors and fashion.

5. How do you juggle your work and being a mum to 3?

It is a juggle isn't it? My boys are wild and full of life so I try to be incredibly focused when I am with them. They are aged 7, 5 and 2 so I've given up on my own home being tidy and void of any sports equipment. I've learnt that I need to transition into my different roles as quickly as possible. It really does take a village and I am beyond thankful to my husband and to my team in the studio. Personally, I have been learning that I need to create long term rhythms to enable a style of life rather than short term fire fighting.

6. Which is your favourite dress from the new SS’22 collection?

How could you not love the strawberries? Beautifully crafted, elegant design and everybody's favourite fruit! That said, I have the Applique Prairie and have worn it non stop! So many beautiful dresses to choose from....
