Laura Cathcart has quickly established herself as one of the country’s top Society milliners with timeless summer and winter collections. She offers both a bespoke and ready-to-wear service for weddings, racing and other special occasions. She also offers a bridal range.
All hand-stitching is done in Laura’s Shropshire studio. She trained at the London College of Fashion and also as an interior designer with Colefax and Fowler in Mayfair where she developed her eye for beautiful fabrics and unique designs. After learning her craft working for milliner Gina Foster, Laura set up her own boutique in 2011.
When did you start your business ?
About six years ago after working in interior design
What do you like the most about your job?
Every hat and commission is different. Whether it’s a hat for Royal Ascot or for the to series The Royals – nothing is the same. I hate repetition
Why did you chose to create hats ?
Hats finish any look – they are the ultimate expression of personal style
From where/what do you take your inspiration ?
I loved the Isabella Blow show. She was a true original
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
Cecil Beaton’s hats for My Fair Lady inspired my couture chocolate collection for Charbonnel et Walker
What is your favourite quote?
‘Every day is s fashion show and the world is the runway’ coco Chanel
What is your favorite Beulah piece/look?
I liked the sabitri dress worn by the Duchess of Cambridge
What is your favorite accessory?
My Thimble – that’s my pug
Where is your favorite place in London?
I love the Chelsea Physic Garden – especially the new buttery exhibition as my new hat collection, The Butterfly House, is inspired by the art of being a social butterfly
