Welsh Classical superstar Katherine Jenkins OBE signed the biggest recording deal in classical music history at the young age of 23, going on to perform for The Pope, Presidents, and Royalty. The lyrical mezzo-soprano’s most recent album ‘Celebration’ broke chart history by being Katherine’s 12th Number 1 album in 12 years. Known as the forces sweetheart for entertaining the troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Cyprus & Northern Ireland, she performed by request at Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. Now a mother to baby Aaliyah, 2017 sees Katherine starring in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘Carousel’ at The Coliseum, London.
Katherine wears our Zig Zag Off The Shoulder Dress – Available for Pre-Order. This is a dress very close to our hearts as the fabric was a piece of work in collaboration with Women’s Interlink Foundation and Key To Freedom.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My Mum. She empowered my sister and I as young women and was a great role model for being independent & hard working as she herself was the breadwinner of our family. She had to deal with the loss of her husband, our father, at a young age and has been incredibly strong throughout whilst all the time having a very fun and outgoing attitude to life.
What is your favourite flower?
Being Welsh, I would have to say Daffodils! Apart from the fact that they remind me of home, they also symbolise springtime and us leaving winter behind. I was also very honoured to have a daffodil named after me in 2009.
How would you describe your personal style?
I’m definitely more of a dress up than a dress down kind of girl. There has to be a practical reason for me to choose jeans and trainers! I’m curvy and know what suits my body shape so I am always drawn to very feminine & timeless pieces.
What is your favourite Beulah piece?
My scarves! I have so many now and adore them as they are perfect for a smart, effortless travel day, a meeting or a rehearsal. As a singer, I like to protect my voice so these come in very handy and are super soft!
What do you think Beulah stands for and the work it does through The Beulah Trust?
For as long as I’ve know about the brand Beulah I’ve been aware of the incredible work they do for women and their freedom around the world. I’ve always been incredibly touched by and proud to support a company founded by two caring and creative women in their efforts to change the lives of vulnerable women.
What drives you most in the work that you do?
I love what I do. I think it is such a gift to wake up in the morning, excited for what the day holds. Since having my daughter, my attitude to work has changed too. I want to be a good role model for her so that she can see that Mummy is passionate about something, works hard and is dedicated to something she loves.
What is your favourite beauty product?
What’s the best place to eat/hang out in London?
Home! I am away so much that nothing appeals to me more than getting my husband to cook for us and spending quality time with my family. We really enjoy the London theatre scene and restaurants such as Casa Cruz, The Clove Club, The Wolseley and The River Café.
What is the best city you have been to?
New York. Having married a New Yorker, I should probably say that right?! I love the energy, the food, the culture. The pace feels very similar to London which after Wales, will always be my first love!
