Eleonora Galasso – #myweekinbeulah


Day 1

 

Eleonora Galasso is, what she calls, a ‘Food Interpreter’.  She grew up in her family home, a masseria in the south of Italy and now lives in Rome despite jetting off to Paris and London.  Eleonora’s favourite part of Rome is not a specific place but ‘the city inside the city, its old habits that never die, the accessibility of its people and atmospheres, and the scenes from La Dolce Vita that are always just around the corner.’

She  was forbidden to enter her great grandmother’s kitchen but she was allowed to taste the linguine to make sure it was ‘al dente’. “Until the age of 13 it was prohibition time for me, I wasn’t allowed to enter the kitchen since, in my family, ‘it’s not a place for children’, which only made me long for it more. From then on [the kitchen] has been my favourite spot.”

 

This childhood ban made the allure of the kitchen even more powerful, eventually leading to Eleonora training at the Ateneo Italiano della Cucina in Rome where she obtained her masters degree in gastronomy and food culture. She now also writes for magazines like the Guardian, organises cooking workshops held at different secret historical locations in Rome and collaborates at events providing her culinary flair also running a clandestine restaurant. Her one rule is food happiness.

She has been featured in both Marie Claire France and Grazia France

Day 2

While at the wonderful Polian bakery with Eleonora Galasso looking like a vision in green.  To find out a little bit more about what makes Eleonora Galasso tick, we asked her some personal questions…

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

My great-grandmother, the most coherent person I’ve ever known, a woman that always stood still like a rock. If I could live by even a third of her ethics I would consider myself a good human being.

What are your aspirations for the future?

Spreading #foodhappiness vibes all over the world.

What is your favourite quote?

Day 3

Eleonora Galasso travels to be inspired, discusses her favourite Beulah pieces and style for Day 3 of #MyWeekInBeulah

Where does your inspiration come from?

I try and visit the most secluded villages of Italy as often as I can. These people, often  octogenarian, talk about their lifestyle and gastronomic culture  with such enthusiasm that it’s  like hearing about the beginning or the end of the world.

What is your favourite Beulah piece?

Definitely all the printed patterns, recurring in each of your collection. They’re your signature and they stand out beautifully in a crowd, no matter how numerous.  This season I love the ‘Serena’ dress.

How would you describe your style?

La Dolce Vita with a contemporary hint.

Day 4

 

Today we breach the topics of charity, guilty pleasures while drinking tea in antique fine boned porcelain china and eating the most scrumptious cakes!

What do you think of Beulah’s charity work?

I love the idea that fashion  doesn’t only carry aesthetic symbols, but that a woman, in order to be beautiful, must also embraces humanitarian values. Thumbs-up to Beulah and women empowerment!

What is your all time favourite meal?

My favourite meal of all time would be composed of  a rice timbale bake, which is a glorious Italian centrepiece.  It is a dome of rice stuffed with parmesan, mortadella (Italian saussage), scamorza (cows milk cheese similar to mozzarella) and a sauce made from garlic, carrot, onion, celery and cloves.  Her article for The Guardian with the full recipe is on their website here.

What is your guilty pleasure?

My number one guilty pleasure is stracchino cheese, a gooey and splendidly tasteful Italian soft cheese.

 

Day 5

 

 

Today is the last and final day of My Week in Beulah with ‘Food Interpreter’ Eleonora Galasso.  She wears one of the show stopping ‘Aura’ ball gowns from our AW’15 collection, the dress is silk in one of the more popular colours this season – Evergreen, with a delicate lace collar and two splits in the full skirt.  Eleonora Galasso leaves us with a taste for her cookbook that is released next year and some life tips.

What motivated you to start your blog?

I got asked so many questions by my existing clients that I thought it would just make so much sense to give them a sneak peek into my universe.  It has worked so far!

What advice do you have for anyone who aspires to be like you?

First of all, be yourself as much and as consistently as you can. Cultivate your unicity and look for the same in others, it will lead to life giving back plenty of pleasant surprises. As the saying goes: “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”
